Hi, I am frequently accidently going to the bottom command-line in mutt,
you know, when pressing m for mail or b for bounce - and I have looked
and searched, but still have no idea how to get out of it!?
To recap: I press m, but don't want to mail someone, or I press b, but
don't want to bounce the message. The only solution I have had sofar is
to quit the terminal (Mac OS X and bash).
I am sure there is a shortcut for that, but I just can't find it. ;)

Hitting ^G (CTRL+G simultaneously) works for me. It's a shortcut
borrowed from Emacs, I think.

Yes; we Emacs people use it all the time. I sometimes wonder how
confusing or hard to remember it is for others ...

Looking in the mutt 'manual.txt' file, in section "2.2. Editing Input
Fields" you will find this:

^G n/a abort

Which means to press Control+G to 'get out' of those areas.
